Trouble mars Australia Day at Town Beach

26 Jan, 2012 04:10 PM
HUNDREDS of youths were forced to move on by police today after ugly scenes erupted at Town Beach.

Initial calls came in just after 2pm from members of the public.

Just before 3pm local officers swooped on the popular beach and ordered the teenagers away from the area.

Tensions rose as drunken youths pushed police, yelled obscenities and refused to leave.

At this stage it is unclear how many arrests were made but at least two young men were taken into custody.

If the town beach is the one over near the Marina and behind seascapes then it will always be a trouble spot and has been ever since they allowed a bottle shop right on the car park end. What sort of town planning is that.

Why not put one right on the foreshore next to King Carnival and see what happens there. The police department should be scrutinizing that sort of planning and preventing it happening.

Ron, disagree. The bottle shop is there for the residents and Tourists. I'm local and use it all the time. How do you know that this is where the yobs get their grog? Grog on Australia day is encouraged by many.......start pointing the finger somewhere valid
