Total fire ban in place for tomorrow

Total Fire Ban for Perth, Perth hills and surrounding areas and Mandurah for Wednesday, February 8.

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for Wednesday 8 February 2012 for Perth, Perth hills and surrounding areas and Mandurah.

This includes Perth Metropolitan area, Perth hills and neighbouring shires of:

• Chittering

• Gingin

• Kalamunda

• Mundaring

• Murray

• Waroona

On Wednesday 8 February between 12.01am until 11.59pm any activity that could start a fire is banned.

This means:

• you must not light or use any fires in the open air

• all open fires for the purpose of cooking or camping are not allowed

• ‘hot work’ such as metal work, grinding, welding, soldering, gas cutting or similar is not allowed unless you have an exemption

• you must not undertake any other activities that may start a fire

If a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban has not been implemented by your local government you are able to harvest or move vehicles across paddocks.

You could be fined up to $25,000 or jailed for 12 months or both if you ignore the Total Fire Ban.

I think we should have a TOTAL FIRE BAN from December to end of March..permanent -no fires to be lit outside....then everyone will know they cannot light fires at all...not think it MIGHT be OK...

gas bbq's are OK..dont need to light a fire at all in summer.
