A SUSPICIOUS house fire has gutted a vacant home in Falcon this morning that also hospitalised a firefighter.
The blaze was first reported at 2.35am at the Nerine Street property by a neighbour and fire crews arrived at 2.49am.
The fibro and tin three-bedroom home was completely destroyed by the fire.
Fire crews from Falcon Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Mandurah Fire Brigade attended the scene.
One firefighter from Falcon was taken to hospital suffering exertion.
The firefighter had been on the scene for nearly two hours when he fell ill with what was originally thought to be smoke inhalation.
An ambulance treated the man on the scene before he was taken to Peel Health Campus as a precaution.
Gas bottles at the rear of the home were moved for safety reason during the blaze to the front of the home, and neighbours say they are grateful for that.
Owner Martin Walsh said the fire was devastating.
“It’s devastating to get that call at 3am and come here today and see this,” he said.
Mr Walsh, who resides in Bunbury with his family, had owned the property for nearly 11years and had been used as an investment.
The home was empty at the time of the blaze as the past tenants moved out on January 25.
Neighbours say the fire lit up the sky.
“The light was blazing through the window,” a neighbour said.
“It’s lucky it wasn’t windy or the fire may have caused more damage.”
Mr Walsh said the home was insured.
The damage bill is estimated at $100,000.
