THIRTY four delegates from government and community organisations along with tourism businesses across the region learnt all about events management at a Helping Hands for Community Events workshop in Waroona on March 3.
Promoted by Events Assist the workshop featured a wide range of speakers who were able to offer advice in the lead up to hosting events.
Moreno Parrella and Marg Hemsley presented a training session on events risk management and the importance of preparing a risk management plan.
Vicki Wotherspoon from the Mandurah Mail gave tips on how to deal with the media while Events Industry Association executive officer Cassandra Brennan spoke on health and safety issues.
Alan Roberts from Main Roads WA explained the facts about road closures, traffic plans and roadside signage.
Waroona Shire community development officer Maree Ellis gave a local government perspective and outlined the assistance they can provide to event holders.
Event Assist coordinator Terry Cockerham explained the importance of event evaluations and how to market the event effectively for the lowest cost.
“The main aim of these workshops was to provide a one stop shop for information, which will enable regional community events to grow and at the same time reduce the workload of the many volunteers who run them,” Mr Cockerham said.
“Without the support of the presenters, all of whom gave freely of their time and the funding support of the Shire of Waroona, the day would not have been possible.”
Event Assist has received further funding to host two similar events, with the next one planned for May 26.
