A SEX shop will open on Pinjarra Road facing the Sutton Street intersection despite some opposition from Mandurah City councillors.
Council was tied on the vote whether to change the shop site’s use from shop to restricted premises at the committee meeting on Tuesday night.
Councillor John Hughes, deputy mayor Darren Lee and Cr Doug Cavanagh voted for the proposal and Cr Peter Kane, Cr Syd Wilson and Cr Bruce Blay voted against it.
Chairman Cr Lee exercised his casting vote and voted for the motion.
The decision has already been delayed from last month’s round of council meetings.
Cr Blay, who has maintained his opposition to the sex shop’s location, said he still could not support the motion.
Cr Kane said he was not against the business, just against the location.
Cr Lynn Rodgers asked what would be displayed in the shop’s windows.
City sustainable development manager Fiona Mullen said the shop would be quite restricted with what it could display in the windows.
The restricted premises will be near the Hog’s Breath restaurant
