THE Murray Shire has written to all Dwellingup residents asking them to nominate for two vacancies on the newly-formed Dwellingup Tourism Development Working Party.
Shire chief executive Dean Unsworth said the Shire was looking at improved ways of delivering visitor servicing in Dwellingup and to ensure that funds spent on tourism not only effectively serviced visitors but also developed the tourism industry.
“In undertaking this process the Shire is also investigating if there are other potential social and economic benefits for Dwellingup”.
At the September 2009 Council meeting it was also resolved that a working party be formed to work on a business plan and potential uses for the current Dwellingup History and Visitor Information Centre building.
The Council has resolved that while funding opportunities should be investigated into further developing the current building no decisions be made on its future until there has been significant public consultation.
“This strategy is in line with our recently adopted Tourism Strategy 2009 – 2014 where we have to not only provide more effective visitor servicing, but also implement strategies to develop the tourism industry,” Mr Unsworth said.
The two community members who join the working party will have significant input into the future of tourism services.
Nominations for the Dwellingup Tourism Development Working Party close on December 18 at 4pm.
This will allow councillors time ratify group membership this month as there is no council meeting in January.
Nominations in writing can be sent to the CEO, Shire of Murray, PO Box 21, Pinjarra, WA, 6208.
