29 Oct, 2009 04:00 AM
A FORMER scout leader known for his work with children in the Peel and Murray regions is facing a possible life sentence after being arrested in America.

Twenty five-year-old Scott Zirus, from Pinjarra, was charged last month with the molestation of three boys at an American children’s camp.

Zirus had been working as a camp counsellor as part of an international camp exchange program.

He is currently being held in a Texan jail and will face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child and sexual abuse of a chi ld under 14 years when he appears in the Kerr Country Court next Monday.

Since the charges were laid the Child Abuse Squad, in conjunction with the Department for Child Protection, have asked if anyone locally has any relevant information to get in touch with Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
