A MANDURAH woman wants to connect pensioners in need with those who can help out.
Karen Rolfe wants people to sponsor or adopt a pensioner to make a difference in their lives.
“I own a grocery clearance outlet and I see pensioners that are really struggling,” Ms Rolfe said.
“I can see first hand that something like this will make a difference.”
She read a recent report that said some pensioners had 28 cents left a fortnight after meeting all their obligations.
Touched by this claim Ms Rolfe believed other people could make a huge different by spending as little as $20 a week on struggling pensioners.
“$20 a week will make the world of difference to a pensioner,” she said.
“If I can combine the two and say here’s someone who wants to and here’s someone who needs it they can perhaps work together.
“I’m really just meeting the two up.”
Ms Rolfe wants to set up the scheme like a charity so pensioners can receive help without forsaking their dignity.
“Obviously we don’t want to offend any of these pensioners who are struggling,” Ms Rolfe said.
“They don’t want to lose the last of the dignity they’ve got left.
“If I could set up a committee then we could do it (sponsorship) anonymously for that person.”
A committee will be established in the near future.
