Major fire damage

21 Feb, 2008 06:59 AM
A massive fire scorched more than 100 acres of bush, farmland and property on the outskirts of Pinjarra on Tuesday afternoon.

It is believed the fire started behind the Pinjarra Caravan Park on Pinjarra Road at about 1pm.

Mandurah detective Greg Dowding said the fire went along Pinjarra Road, causing considerable damage.

Three sheds, a bus, two motorbikes and two other vehicles were all destroyed in the blaze.

A caravan was also damaged and an estimated $30,000 of wood from a wood yard was also in the fire’s path.

It is also understood Western Power suffered a considerable amount of damage as the fire spread toward the industrial area on Beacham Road.

A section of Pinjarra Road was closed with motorists diverted along Old Mandurah Road and Patterson Road creating a traffic snarl leading into Pinjarra.

Fire fighters from Pinjarra, Waroona and Jarrahdale had the fire under control around 4pm.

Helicopters were also called in to drop water on the major hotspots.

Authorities are still investigating the fire’s cause.
