MORE than 20,000 homes are without power this morning following a ferocious overnight storm which hit Mandurah and surrounding areas.
One person was reportedly rushed to hospital after being struck by lightning on Wyeree Road about 4am.
On Owen Street and France Street houses were hit by lightning but no injuries were reported.
Traffic lights are out around the city and the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre is closed due to a power outage.
Mandurah received 38.2mm of rain between 5.30am and 7.30am.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns there is a continued risk of thunderstorms in the area and bad weather is expected to continue throughout the day.
People travelling by train to Perth will experience delays after lightning knocked out signals in the Rockingham area.
FESA is warning people to secure loose items, move vehicles undercover and to stay indoors away from windows.
State Emergency Service volunteers have responded to more than 25 calls for assistance already with calls still coming in.
Most calls related to flooding.
Chris Stickland from the local SES group said it had been “the worst electrical storm Mandurah had seen”.
“The lightning didn’t stop – the intensity was horrific.”
SES volunteers are expected to be working well into the afternoon.
