SIMPLE changes to a home can benefit the environment and Mandurah residents can benefit from a new local supplier referral service through the Sustainable Mandurah Home.

Mandurah City, along with Sustainable Mandurah Home project partners Mirvac, Ultimate Homes, Solar Dwellings and Sustainable Consulting recently hosted a supplier referral workshop to explore options in setting up a broker service that connects residents directly with suppliers.

Representatives from suppliers Solahart, Alinta Assist, Tradelink and Great Gardens outlined how residents could source the many energy and water efficient for their homes.

Mandurah City chief executive Mark Newman said the key objective of the Mandurah Sustainable Home was to share valuable environmental tips and information on sustainable living with Mandurah residents.

“Being green does not mean unaffordable,” Mr Newman said.

“The supplier referral service involves a broker based at the Sustainable Mandurah Home to help residents find the best possible sustainable product for the best possible price.”

Solar heating, water wise taps and fittings, a sustainable garden, and energy efficient design are just some of the features of the home that are easily transferrable to today’s modern lifestyle without compromising everyday convenience.

“The environment is a precious asset and small changes to the family home not only helps the future of Mandurah, but can also dramatically reduce the cost of water and energy bills,” Mr Newman said.

The Mandurah Sustainable Home is at 18 Grandmere Parade, Meadow Springs, and residents are encouraged to take a free guided tour of the home and its features.

To find out more about building or renovating a home for a green future, visit the home on Wednesdays from 2-4pm and on the weekends between 1-4pm or log onto www.sustainablemandurah.com.au.
