A SECRET Harbour teenager who led police on a car chase earlier this month faced the Mandurah Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Shane James Brew pleaded guilty to reckless driving and failing to stop after the November 7 incident which happened just after 11pm in Greenfields.
The court heard police had seen Brew tailgating another vehicle.
When officers followed Brew’s car they saw a male passenger without a seatbelt “protruding” from the window.
Lights and sirens were activated but Brew failed to stop.
He continued at speed through Greenfields, at times on the wrong side of the road and over kerbing.
At one stage the accused mounted a footpath and sent sparks flying from the bottom of his car.
At the time of the chase Brew’s vehicle did not have headlights on and the passenger remained hanging out of the window.
Police were forced to abort the pursuit but tracked Brew down through the owner of the vehicle.
Brew, a P-plate driver, told the court he had been to a party earlier and had become involved in a fight.
He said he had been driving to the hospital for treatment.
“It was a stupid thing to do,” he said.
Magistrate Terence McIntyre said Brew had put people at risk and should not be allowed anywhere near the road for a “considerable period of time”.
The 18-year-old ceiling fixer was fined $1900 and lost his licence for 15 months.
