THERE were heartbreaking scenes last Saturday as family members and friends of Chanel Dufall gathered at San Remo beach to commemorate what would have been their loved one’s 21st birthday.
Close to 50 people attended the poignant ceremony in honour of the local girl who was tragically killed four years ago.
Chanel and her mother Tracee were shot dead by gunman Guy Russell Gidgup outside their Greenfields home on January 19, 2006.
The horrific murders rocked the community and devastated family and friends of the popular teenager and her mother.
“Chanel was enchanting,” grandmother Susanne Dunlop said.
“She was a loving friend and she adored her family.
“She was just a beautiful girl, and so was her mother.”
In what was an emotional and moving tribute to Chanel, family and friends sang Happy Birthday before releasing balloons and placing frangipani flowers in the ocean.
And while the guest of honour may not have been there, the memories of Chanel and her mother will never be far away from all those who loved them.
