Culture in clothing

20 Mar, 2008 08:11 AM
FRIDAY was a day to dress up for students at Foundation Christian College who celebrated Harmony Week in style.

They dressed up in garments portraying different cultures.

The students also studied the culture and had food appropriate to that country.

The day was organised to provide a great understanding of the different countries.

“It gives the opportunity for the students to get to know each others culture,” school events coordinator Cheryl Ballard said.

“We’ve got two new students from Tonga and now other students understand where they’re from and they feel more comfortable now.”

Year 12 student Emma Stanway were authentic Indian clothing saying her father was a missionary and often went to India.

“This is handmade from India,” she said.

“My parents bartered for it at a market.”

Ms Ballard said the day was a huge success.
