A 20-year-old man convicted of dangerous driving causing death has been released on parole.
Derek Jute Taylor was racing his Mazda 6 against Mark Robert John Archer's Holden Commodore on Mandurah Road, Madora Bay, just after midnight on July 28, 2007.
The Kalgoorlie man lost control of his car which saw Port Kennedy teenager Chloe Schoppe killed.
Taylor was jailed in April last year for dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm for 26 months.
He also had his driver's licence disqualified for two years.
But in December, the WA Court of Criminal Appeal unanimously cut Taylor's sentence to make him eligible for parole.
In a decision published this week, the Prisoner Review Board said Taylor - who served 20 months' jail - reached speeds up to 120kmh on the night Ms Schoppe was killed.
Late last month, the board considered Taylor's application for parole and it approved his release because he posed a low risk of re-offending due to his minor criminal history and the ‘effect’ of his first term of jail.
