Car crash highlighted intersection concerns

29 Apr, 2009 02:49 PM
THE second serious car accident caused by the notorious intersection between Caspian Street and Northport Boulevard has sparked concern among residents.

Anne White was shocked to discover last Wednesday that her daughter Monique had flipped her car and ploughed through a tree just a few blocks from their home on Caspian Street.

The car landed on its roof, crushing the driver’s side seat area.

The 17-year-old had been turning right onto Northport Boulevard when wet conditions saw her lose control of the car and crash into a property across the road.

Her daughter was pulled from the wreckage by a nearby resident and appeared uninjured.

Suffering from shock, Monique ran to her house and alerted her mother.

“I came out to find her running up the road towards me,” Ms White said.

“She was screaming.”

The airbag didn’t deploy when the crash occurred and Ms White had suspicions at the time that her daughter might have head injuries.

She was taken to Peel Health Campus shortly after the accident and kept under observation for four hours before being given the all clear.

Ms White said it was a coincidence that her daughter had just received her defensive driving certificate in the mail this morning.

“She’s such a good driver,” she said.

“Somebody needs to do something about the road.

“I don’t know whether it’s too steep or because it has two blind corners but it’s dangerous.”

Residents in the area have already taken steps to highlight the black spot in their suburb.

Earlier in the week a resident had been in contact with Mail about the dangerous intersection.

Another crash involving a car skidding out of control into a vacant block happened just metres from the accident site.
