THE ballot draws have been announced and Canning’s two major contenders are heading the list on the ballot paper for the August 21 election.
Labor’s Alannah McTiernan has drawn the top spot on the vote card with Liberal Don Randall sitting just below at number two.
Darren Vernede from Family First, the Green’s Denise Hardie, Jamie Van Burgel from the Christian Democrat Party and Citizen’s Electoral Council’s Ian Tuffnell round out the remaining candidates.
An optimistic Ms McTiernan said she felt the draw was a “good omen”.
“I’m not sure how much it means,” she said.
“But it’s nice to have it.”
The Federal Labor hopeful said she believed most people ultimately made their vote a conscious decision.
Ms McTiernan also said she was happy with her campaign so far.
“We are getting very positive feedback,” she said.
“People are saying they like what we’re doing.”
Current Canning MP Don Randall also said the ballot draw was a “good omen” and expressed no concern at being second-placed on the card.
“This is the third time my opponent has drawn number one,” he said.
“Put it this way, the donkey vote has never helped me.”
Mr Randall said his campaign was going strongly.
“I’m very happy with the way we’re running this campaign.
“I am hopeful that, in this case, the first shall be last.”
