HAVING lived a full and rewarding life Eva Cross was excited to celebrate her 100th birthday last Monday.
Born on June 16, 1908 Miss Cross has enjoyed many highlights over the years including the opening ceremonies of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
She was a part of the NSW women’s rowing team and followed her team across to West Australia to compete in a time when a woman competing in sports was a rare sight.
From 1939-1946 Miss Cross was a member of the Red Cross volunteer brigade and eventually was awarded with a lifetime award for distinguished service.
In 1958 she moved to Perth to be closer to her sister and worked for the Farmers Union board for 25 years.
Miss Cross never had any children but was blessed with two nephews and a niece whom she loves dearly along with several grand nephews and grand nieces.
She celebrated her 100th birthday at nephew Brennan Rose’s house along with a party at Coolibah Lodge where she lives.
As is tradition for such a milestone Miss Cross received congratulatory letters from dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
She said there were tears in her eyes after opening the letter from the Queen.
