Fine for fraud

17 Dec, 2009 04:00 AM
A GREENFIELDS woman who received $18,000 she was not entitled to pleaded guilty to a charge of obtaining a financial advantage in the Mandurah Magistrates Court last Friday.

Penelope Ingrid Boyle received the money between July 2005 and May last year and failed to notify Centrelink of her true earnings.

Counsel for the 38-year-old said gambling was to blame for her actions and asked that she received a community based order given her addiction.

It was revealed the mother of three would gamble between $200-300 each week at the casino.

Magistrate Terence McIntyre said he had considered sending Boyle to prison and dismissed her gambling addiction.

Boyle was ordered to do 240 hours community service, undergo an 18-month intensive supervision order and repay the money.
