DIANNE Wood is taking Mandurah dance to America.
Twenty one dancers from the Dianne Wood School of Dancing will take the trip of a lifetime and perform jazz and tap routines at Disneyland and Universal Studios in America.
The 17-day trip will also include dance workshops in Los Angeles and New York which Dushenka Wood, Dianne’s daughter and dance teacher, said would broaden many of the young performer’s dance horizons.
Their adventure will start in Anaheim at the Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure Park where they will do two shows and take part in both Musical Theatre and Dance Academy workshops.
They also have the opportunity to take part in the Main Street USA parade and one performance show at Universal Studios.
From there the tour will continue to New York where the students will take part in private dance classes on Broadway.
They will attend classes at the famous Broadway Dance Centre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Steps on Broadway.
Many dance schools from the eastern states take this opportunity to develop and enhance their training and knowledge in all areas of dance including classical ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and contemporary.
Dianne Wood said it would be a wonderful opportunity for the students to gain the same experience.
In all there are 11 official private workshops that all of the students will take part in as well as the three performances.
It is the first time the dance school, which has been teaching young dancers in Mandurah for the past 22 years, is taking dance overseas.
To raise money for the September tour a quiz and auction night will be held at the Masonic Hall in Furnissdale on June 6 and followed by a ball at RAAFA Meadow Springs on July 4.
Tables of up to 10 people are available for the quiz that starts at 6.30pm.
Tickets are $10 each.
